Purpose-Driven Color In Your Home Decor

The most recognized advertising campaign of all time relied on color. Philip Morris at that time had a problem with Marlboro, a cigarette brand for women. Philip Morris turned the problem over to motivation research experts who decided that the cigarette packaging should have a splash of red. The rest is history.

If any, this confirms what practically everyone knows about color: it has a distinct effect on man, and helps man shape his opinions of things. This means that most people who want to do-it-themselves can achieve their purpose in each room as long as he or she has the know-how.

Colors are either cool or warm.
Blues create a cool feel. Yellows and reds create warmth. Reds excite; they make one like to move around. Blues are quiet; they make one like to sit still. People seem to work best when surrounded by blues, although too strong or too much of it can become too depressingly heavy. The color alone can make a person feel warm or cold in a room, even if the ambient temperature remains the same.

Color preferences.

Red is the most popular color. Girls and women love colors like magenta or purplish red. Orange-red is a popular choice among boys and men. Next is blue. Men like more robust shades, while women prefer turquoise or aqua. Generally, large areas of soft or delicate colors with small spots of brilliant accents appeal to people. This may explain why people are drawn to sandy beach scenes.

Complementary pairs form the ideal color combination.

Blue and orange, for instance, have the same waves as white light and come as a balance of warm and cool, and, as such, do not strain the eyes. Have one of the colors light, the other dark – they work best that way. Saturated hues can oftentimes seem unpleasant - so avoid them.

Every hue has a mate and a family.

The mate is the complementary color. The shades, tints, and tones resulting from the marrying of the complementary hues are the family. For walls, colors like white or gray mixed with green-blue is recommended. For illustration, you might consider a vermilion floral wall art. Beige or brown furniture looks best with this color palette. It will still look attractive if you put in a wall grill decor.

Let the room's purpose decide its color.

For the bedroom, use delicate tints and tones to achieve a soft and soothing feeling. For the living room, have something more dramatic: contrasting colors and more color accents. Babies can only see bright light - so select bright colors for the baby's room. You might have a pair of vermilion floral wall decorations here to pull together your living room and baby's room.

The room's orientation can determine its color.

Avoid using colors like yellow or peach if the room has windows that look towards the east. Don't use blue, if the room has just a north facing window. Generally, a room with poor light should take a light color; otherwise, it can take a deep color. Most homeowners paint their ceilings white so that the ceiling reflects light into the room. Remember that if you cannot alter your wall color, you can invariably add individuality and color with the addition of a beautiful fish metal art, traditional painting, wall tapestries or any other wall accent from your favorite wall decor site or store.

What is the best way to repaint a metal bed???

I recently bought a metal bed from someone for my daughter. Although the bed is already pale pink which normally would work great for a girl, I want to change the color, the color of pink that it is does not match her decor and it also has many scratches in the paint.

Tip: Never believe someone on craigslist when they say something is perfect, looks like new. I made that mistake and sent my husband after the bed (doesn't care about details) and he came back with a bed that was terribly scratched up. Normally I wouldn't complain about a few scratches here and there but they were all over and we paid quite a bit for the bed.

You have several options available, you can use a paint stripper and strip all the paint off and take it back to bare metal, then prime and repaint with a spraycan or air brush.
