Are treehuggers necessarily evil?

People who place the environment over humans- 'treehuggers' who will sabotage tractors and towlines to save some old wood, and thus jeopardizing their jobs, families, construction and housing costs, etc; are they wrong? It wasn't right to fine that pilot and suspend his license just for rescuing that lost boy in the woods- no helicopters were allowed that low in a natural reserve! Ridiculous! Humans come first!
But, just because treehugger-types espouse terrorism against whalers, spike nails into trees to amputate arms from loggers, do millions of dollars of vandalism each year to major corporations, well, are they evil?

um, wow....

no, "treehuggers" are generally good people, but all groups of people that we categorize with a label will have some crazies that go way too far. Are religious people evil? A lot of them are, but its a ridiculous statement to say "religious people are evil." The same goes for tree huggers, Texans, Eskimos, soccer fans, dentists, and all other "kind" of people. (Actually scratch that, all dentists are evil:)

I'm not sure where you got this information condemning tree huggers, but the general impetus of environmentalism IS to "put humans 1st" as you say, BY WAY OF preserving the environment. The relationship between human civilization and the rest of the planet is not a zero sum game where, for one to prosper, the other must lose. Its quite, quite the opposite.

Human civilizations require, as a matter of survival, robust and healthy biosystems to sustain them. Virtually all of the biosystems on the earth are threatened and in a state of dangerous decline.

Radical environmentalists, as distinct from "treehuggers," who can only be defined as 'those who hug trees,' probably feel justified in their acts of violence and economic obstructionism etc. because they feel that vital biosystems are so threatened that they will do "whatever it takes" to prevent further damages, and that the reasons such destruction is allowed are corrupt or unjustified.

Look up the term "tragedy of the commons." It is not controversial to say that the massive environmental degradation we observe today is in some part a result of this phenomenon, and that environmental policies set by government often results such that the 'foxes end up guarding the henhouses,' so to speak.
