Cheap International Last Minute Airline Flights Ticket

It's the peak holiday season, but it still takes just a few minutes online and a few pounds to book a flight to Glasgow, Manchester, Dublin ... even Prague, Rome or Barcelona.

Not for much longer, though, if an influential group of MPs gets its way. Alarmed at what it sees as the government's wilful disregard of the effects of cheap air travel on global warming, the cross-party environmental audit committee will tomorrow lay out a range of proposals to get people to pay for some of the damage they do.

It may take time and, given the tangle of international agreements that govern flights overseas, it is far more likely to mean the end of bargain fares to Manchester than to Moscow (£118 this week, if you know where to look). But the aim is to shift at least some passengers from air travel to high-speed rail links. The MPs also want changes on Britain's roads, with increases in road tax, targeted road tolls and more congestion charges.

It is vital, one committee member told The Observer yesterday, that the government should factor in the environmental impact of its transport policies - something the MPs were surprised to find is not happening. There is an ambitious overall target to cut Britain's carbon emissions by 60 per cent before 2050, but no specific plan for transport - which is the biggest emissions culprit and shows every sign of getting worse.

'They don't even measure the relative emissions impact of building a new road as against a new public transport project,' the MP said.

While a national road-charging scheme to charge motorists by the mile is being piloted, its aim is to cut congestion, not to discriminate between a higher-emissions Land Rover and an environmentally less damaging Toyota Prius.

But tomorrow's report is expected to say that the main challenge is air travel. Jetting off to the Mediterranean with a budget airline can now cost less than a tankful of petrol for a 4x4. The MPs will argue that the problem has arisen because airlines don't pay tax on their fuel, because passenger duty charges have been kept unrealistically low, and because no one in the government is prepared to take on the airlines.

The Transport Secretary, Douglas Alexander, told the committee that the government was addressing the problem of airline emissions by pushing for air travel to be included in the Europe-wide emissions-trading scheme. But with many of the airlines backing that strategy, the MPs were sceptical. Their fear was that this 'soft option' would not significantly change domestic policy on air travel, despite official figures showing that transport - particularly air travel - is the only sector of the British economy whose emissions have risen since 1990.

'Given the predictions for aviation growth, transport emissions could take up our whole global target emissions, leaving no room for emissions by any other sector of the economy by 2050,' said Desmond Turner, the Labour MP for Brighton Kemptown, during the committee's questioning of Alexander.

Arriving in the Philippines on China Airlines might help him because CI arrives in Manila during the daytime hours. In Manila he can use Cebu Pacific Airlines to get to Cebu. Cebu Pacific has a tight weight allowance for baggage and they charge for being over weight.

From the US he can call China Airlines reservations office and ask about a booking at 1-800-227-5118. If he intends to visit the P.I. again and again tell him to sign up for the frequent flier program so he can use all of those miles for free flights. CI doesn't fly direct from Charlotte so there would be other airlines bringing him to the first CI connection point.

If you meet him in Manila it would make getting to Cebu a little easier on the guy.

I fly to Manila on Northwest (now Delta) because it is convenient from Boston and I get a lot of perks with my frequent flier miles, but I fly overseas often. The date he chooses to fly affects his price too. If it is on a holiday, especially Christmas or New Years the flights are higher priced. After June when the kids get out of school in America the flights are higher priced. When he has a date in mind don't fall in love with that particular day because he must check a few days before and a few days after to see if the price changes. Sometimes just changing your departure day a little the price is different.

He can get free information from local travel agents in his city. He does not have to commit to any particular travel agency. He can get information for free and tell the airline he must think about it. If he can use the information to get a flight over the internet - so be it! Always ask if flying on a different date, either a little before or a little after, will the price be cheaper.

From Charlotte using Delta right now the price is around $1100 for a flight in Feb. He can use this link and just add the dates he wants to fly on. (I think he can do better than that if he checks for prices frequently.)

O'Neill said that China would become a major economic power, surpassing the United States by 2035 based on the current speed of economic growth. The economic power and influence of BRICs are growing.

O'Neill's forecast is logical. The uprising of BRICs is changing the structure of the world and driving the global economy. In the past, the world's economy was dominated by North America, the European Union and Japan. The combined GDP of BRICs in 2005 reached 4.6 trillion dollars, matching the GDP of Japan. BRICs are beginning to dominate the world's economy. China is said to be the most prominent of the four countries. It has maintained an average economic growth rate of over 9.6 percent per year over the past 30 years. China's GDP increased to 2.23 trillion dollars in 2005, which accounts for half the total of the four countries. The economic growth rates of India, Russia and Brazil all surpass western countries and are above average in the world. If the economy of the "golden bricks" of these four countries continues to grow at the current speed, O'Neill's prediction will come true in the near future. The rise of BRICs is also changing the world order. This is happening not only because of BRICs' robust economic growth but also because of its role as an initiator and motivator of the new international order. The four countries advocate the democratization of international relations, oppose hegemony and call for respect for global diversification. As developing nations, they have had the opportunity to learn from others and offset their own weaknesses.

The uprising of BRICs is changing the structure of the world and driving the global economy. Members of BRICs are earnestly practicing the style of international relations they have advocated, setting an example of friendly cooperation between different cultures. China and Russia, China and India, China and Brazil as well as Russia and India have all established strategic partnerships. Russia is rich in energy and mineral resources, and Brazil has natural and alternative energy technology. Both China and India are manufacturing giants, and the relationship between Russia and India will doubtlessly be complementary economically.EMBI+ (Emerging Markets Bond Index Plus) risk rating for Brazil has reached another low record of 170 b.p in 03/2007. This reflects the building of confidence by foreign investors in the Brazilian economic policy, that once again gave proof of reliability by paying IMFs $15.5 billion debt in advance and raising a $110 billion reserve.

The five key themes that we believe will shape the performance of Brazilian market equities over the medium term are:

1. Integration of emerging market labor into the global economy, with rapid growth in working-age populations and average incomes, leading to the development of large urban consumer markets. In fact, in our view, enhanced emerging market labor supply into the global economy is the most important determinant of the current global boom - much more important than demand side factors, such as home-equity withdrawal in the US or easy money policy from the Fed.

5. Further global industrial and services sector consolidation, characterized by emerging market companies playing an enhanced role in industry leadership.

There is clearly still some space for profiting with Brazilian securities, comparing P/E to that of other countries. We continue to be believe in a 2007 re-acceleration in global growth. Main risks to our benign scenario for equities include the potential escalation of geopolitical tensions, a collapse of the USD, a sharp rise in US treasury yields and sudden widening of corporate debt spreads.

The Emerging Markets Bond Index Plus (EMBI+) tracks total returns for traded external debt instruments in the emerging markets. The instruments include external currencydenominated Brady bonds, loans and Eurobonds, as well as U.S. Dollar local market instruments. There is clearly still some space for profiting with Brazilian securities, comparing P/E to that of other countries. Brazil is currently rated BB+ but we think it will be considered investment grade in 2008/2009.

Fly fighters as a means of entertainment: Take a thrilling ride of jet fighter as a non-pilot

Despite dreaming of it, many people don't know that flying fighter jets is possible for civilians. Up to today, a few hundred flight enthusiasts took the chance to fly in a jet as airforce pilots do. What do you need, if you want fly a jet fighter? To fly fighters, you don't need any prior flying experience. Jet flights for amateurs are carried out in two-seater aircraft, so you'll fly with a jet fighter instructor who will be in control during most parts of the flight such as starting, landing and crucial maneuvers. So if you're healthy and can afford the ride, you're good to go. To fly a jet fighter, there's remain two things to consider: Which jet fighter to fly and the available budget.

Let's first look at different locations to fly military aircraft. In general, there should be distinguished between light L-39 jets and heavy 3rd generation jet fighters such as the MiG-29 and MiG-31. If you look for the most advanced jets to fly, flying fighter jets in Russia is the way to go: Only there, the MiG-29 - designed to outperform the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18, is available for so-called demonstration flights. This means you can fly military aircraft that are in air force service around the world. If you are planning on flying fighter jets like the MiGs, keep in mind that these flights are not cheap: Supersonic flights in MiG-29 start at some 14000 USD. Because of ever-changing exchange rates and oil prices, the prices vary seasonally and annually. Specialized consulting companies such as MiGFlug.com or FlyFighterJet.com have agreements with key players of the defense industry and are therefore able to provide direct clients and travel agencies with "demonstration" flights in MiGs. Unlike in Russia, flights in American F-15, F-16, F/A-18 or even F-22 are generally unavailable to the public.

However, you can also fly airplanes that are less expensive - light fighters such as the widespread Aero L-39 Albatross fighter jets are available in the US as well as in Europe where Czech Republic, Switzerland and Spain are the top locations for such flights. These jets make up the second group of available jets. If you fly a jet fighter like the L-39, you'll fly fighters that are used for training of military pilot. Such jet flights are available for as low as 2200.00 USD for 30 minutes, and therefore also make an ideal gift.

A third group of available jet flights are older warbirds. To fly fighters such as the 1950's Hawker Hunter or the English Electric Lightning, you'll have to be a member of special clubs keeping these warbirds in the air. Through special relations to such clubs, specialized companies can allow interested non-members to fly fighters normally exclusively available to club members.

What all flights, regardless of the jet type have in common: If you're flying fighter jets, you'll have to sign some paperwork and assure that you're healthy enough to fly in military aircraft. You don't need to be an athlete - but keep in mind that if you fly a military jet, you'll experience G-loads of up to 6G (that's six time the earth gravitation).

To sum it up: Flying fighters is actually pretty easy - the hardest part might be choosing the right jet to fly.

Is flying on an McDonnell Douglas MD-80 still safe?

I'm a bit of a nervous flyer. I usually fly United or Alaska, but I'll be traveling from Seattle to Dallas to San Antonio on American Airlines. I saw that it isn't a Boeing airplane, which made me do a bit of research...and these planes are older models, which makes me a bit more nervous than usual.

Out of 1,191 built (not counting later variants, i.e., MD-90, MD-95/Boeing 717), a total of 59 have been involved in "incidents". That's a pretty good track record/odds.

Some of these were pilot/maintenance errors, which you can't blame the plane for.

Act Fast When Customers and the Community Lose Faith in Your Offerings

There may be no stronger source of unhappy surprise than having the customers' and community's perceptions of your products and services suddenly turn from positive to negative with no warning. Perhaps a television program runs an expose about the safety of your product, testing it in ways that you have never considered or are inappropriate. Or suddenly the government imposes a new standard, and your product has to be phased out in its current form. If you didn't anticipate these risks your reaction will probably be similar to a bicyclist without a rear-view mirror who is bumped from behind by a speeding truck. You won't know what hit you.

One of the most interesting challenges about these circumstances is that regardless of the merits of the negative reaction you encounter, you have to do something soon or the negative reaction will become even worse. If you don't change your product or service appropriately, you'll be perceived as callous.

If you make the adjustment for one country and keep shipping the old product to other countries, you may be viewed as unethical (or even racist in some cases). If the basis of the negative reaction is that your employees may have misbehaved in some way (by bribing someone, for example), you'll be viewed as condoning the behavior if you don't take quick action to suspend the people involved and investigate what has been going on.

The irresistible force here is that during the times when you are perceived by society as a positive contributor, you receive the benefit of the doubt from customers and the community in general. As soon as it appears that you may have faltered in your public responsibilities, the presumption seems to shift to doubting everything from your intentions to your effectiveness.

Many companies have not faced this problem before and do not know how to respond in a crisis. They appear helpless to everyone.

You may have observed this condition in the past when an airline has its first big plane crash and many people are hurt or killed. The airline may have always provided great service, good prices, and contributed to the community, and have had a good reputation as a result. But if it appears disorganized and insufficiently caring during a disaster, the airline may be viewed by the public and the families of those involved in the crash as a monster that must have contributed to the accident. Lost revenues can dog the company's path for years as doubts about safety and trustworthiness grow.

A good example of how negativity can be handled can be drawn from the DC-10 safety problems. McDonnell Douglas quickly addressed the flaws that had been uncovered and hired one of the astronauts to review the plane's safety and report what he found.

That report was featured in the company's television advertising. The company's actions made everyone aware that surveillance by the Federal Aviation Administration and the airlines probably made the DC-10 safer than any other plane that was flying at the time.

At first the public avoided DC-10s in droves. But within a year, hardly any travelers avoided them. Eventually, the plane was recognized as a safe alternative by the traveling public, following the effective, timely adjustments made by McDonnell Douglas and the airlines.

What is the difference between aircrafts?

Hi!
I am a frequent flyer, but for some reason, still a very scared one. I always like to know all details about a plane.
Now I was just looking at the type of plane I will be flying on sunday, with the airline AirBerlin, and I can see it is a boeing 737-800. But now I'm starting to wonder .. What is even the difference between a boeing, and airbus or a McDonnell Douglas MD? Just to mention a few aircraft-types. They all come in different sizes and so on, so the size of a boeing could in principal be the same size as an airbus, depending on the type. So why are there so many different types, and what's the difference between them? I never really notice the difference. To me, a plane is a plane.
How come some are for long-haul, and some aren't? Because of the size of the fuel-tank?

The differences among the various manufacturers' airplanes are minor, and fall in the area of technical details. On the whole, they are all built, maintained, and operated the same way.

If you want to know more of the details that make the various manufacturers' airplanes different from each other, the best way to do that is to run an internet search on each individual type. For example, a search on "Boeing 737" will bring up a huge amount of information on Boeing 737s. Read and study for a while, and then run another search on another type. After a while, you will begin to see the details that make the difference.

As to long and short haul airplanes, it is in the broadest terms a matter of the overall size of the airplane. A Boeing 747 or its direct competitor, the Airbus A340, is a very large airplane with lots of power and large fuel tanks. It can fly a very long distance, and carry enough passengers to make the long trips profitable. But it costs a lot to own and operate a 747 or an A340, and it would not be profitable to use these airplanes to "hop" back and forth, say, between Frankfurt and Athens.

So for the shorter trips, the manufacturers design smaller airplanes with smaller engines specifically designed for the shorter trips. A Boeing 737, for example, cannot make a long cross-Pacific run, but it is economical for zipping back and forth between Paris and Lisbon.

So it is just a matter of the design being optimized for the mission. Not mysterious at all.
