HERE IS MY PLATFORM:

(1) Press 1 for English is immediately banned. English is the official language of America. Speak it or wait at the border until you can.

(2) We will immediately go into a two-year isolationist posture to straighten out the country's attitude. NO imports, no exports. We will use the 'WalMart' policy: 'If we ain't got it, you don't need it.'

(3) When imports are allowed, there will be a 100% import tax on it.

(4) All retired military personnel and the National Guard will be required to man one of our many observation towers on the southern border. (Six month tour) They will be under strict orders not to fire on SOUTHBOUND aliens.

(5) Social Security will immediately return to its original state. If you didn't put nuttin' in, you ain't getting' nuttin' out. Neither the president nor any other politician will be able to touch it. All Americans will have the choice of opting out of the system and providing for their own retirement.

(6) Welfare - Checks will be handed out on Fridays at the end of the 40 hour work week and the successful completion of urinalysis. Every Church in America will be required to adopt at least two elderly widows and two young children to provide for their welfare.

(7) Professional Athletes - Steroids - The FIRST time you check positive you will be banned for life.

(8) Crime - There are only two ways to handle crime...Restitution or Execution. Thieves will be required to repay their victims plus 20% (not pay fines to the Court) before they are released from the prison work program. In addition, criminals will pay for their food, clothing, housing, and medical care. No tax money will be used for their upkeep. There will be no more life sentences - criminals lawfully convicted (that means by proper evidence) of a capitol offense (murder, rape, and kidnapping) will be put to death within 30 days.

(9) One export will be allowed - Wheat - The world needs to eat. A bushel of wheat will be the exact price of a barrel of oil.

(10) All foreign aid using American taxpayer money will immediately cease, and the saved money will pay off the national debt and ultimately lower government operating costs. When disasters occur around the world, we'll ask the American people if they want to donate to a disaster fund, and each citizen can make the decision whether it's a worthy cause.

(11) The Pledge of Allegiance will be recited every day at school and every day in Congress.

(12) The National Anthem will be played at all appropriate ceremonies, sporting events, outings, etc.

(13) The IRS will be abolished and replaced with a 10% national sales tax on all goods and services. The federal government will receive 1%, the States 5%, and the counties and cities 2% each. All property taxes will be abolished. If God can get by on 10% so can the government.

(14) All corporations will be abolished and replaced with sole ownership or limited partnership businesses. The owner(s) must be available to customers during normal business hours. Owners will be prosecuted for not submitting collected tax money.

(15) All government positions, elective and appointed, will have strict term limits. Public service is a brief civic duty, not a career to enrich the office holder. Salaries will be based of the average income of the people the government worker represents.

(16) Most foreign military bases will be closed and our troops brought home to guard our borders. America will mind its own business and let other countries do the same. America will no longer "nation build", sponsor "CIA coups", or otherwise interfere with other countries. All U.N. personnel will leave America within 30 days, the U.N. building will be reduced to rubble to disable all the spy equipment housed in it.

(17) The debt usury system will be abolished. America will return to an honest money system backed by gold and silver. All loans will be for terms of six years or less, including land and houses.

(18) Politicians will be held personally responsible for all debts they incur. No longer will Americans have their names co-signed to any debt they do not personally make.

(19) All the national security agencies...the FBI, CIA, ATF, TSA, etc... will be under one department and report daily to the President.

(20) Any person who does not want to live by the values expressed in 1 thru 19 will be deported to a country of their choice. We want everyone to be happy.

Commercial airline companies that cater to the transportation needs of people primarily derive profit from the sale of their airline tickets. This is an airline's performance in terms of airline ticketing is integral in its continuous operation. Airline ticketing metrics are usually predetermined by airline authorities as a gauge of their performance.

Basically, an airline is a company that provides air transportation services for people or for things. The latter is possible when an airline's operations are centered on freight. Some airlines have their own aircrafts, while others only lease them for a specific length of time. Depending on the market that they serve, airlines may be categorized as intercontinental, domestic, or intracontinental.

Commercial passenger airlines generally issue airline tickets to their passengers as proof of their purchase of a seat on an airplane. The ticket that had been issued is the same document that has to be presented to airport personnel in order for a passenger to be given a boarding pass at the airport. Without both, a passenger will not be allowed to board an aircraft.

As proof of sale, issuance of airline tickets is always monitored. In the same way, figures that reflect proceeds of sale are automatically fed to an airline database for airline managers to analyze and evaluate. To translate the thousands of numerical figures that are probably contained in an information database, metrics are often used as performance measures. What is crucial is that airline managers should be able to identify those metrics that really matter to them. The predetermined metrics should be relevant to the attainment of organizational goals and should be communicated to all organizational levels.

Airline performance in terms of airline ticketing could also be assigned metrics. When these metrics are arranged on a scorecard that features different operational categories of the airline, these could be helpful in assisting managers in their decision-making tasks. To ensure balanced assessment, metrics from different operational viewpoints may be identified and used. For example, measures like total revenue from airline tickets, total refunded amount for cancelled tickets, or salary of airline ticket agent could be used as metrics under the financial perspective. On the other hand, metrics that will reflect how customers perceive the airline company may be categorized under the customer perspective. These metrics may include charges for seat preferences or ticket cancellation charges. Lastly, internal processes in ticketing should also be evaluated through metrics like ticketing errors, cost of employee training, and revenue derived from training.

Unfortunately, for airline companies, the passenger airline industry is characterized to be one of the most customer-sensitive industries in the world. Declining sales of airline tickets has often been a problem, even for the bigger airlines. There are many factors that could cause this; among which are increase in air travel costs, threats of air safety, preference of customers for land travel, and even weather. Given this, it becomes even more crucial that airline managers regularly look up at airline ticketing metrics to help them decide what needs to be done.

Breaking 1991 down into the biggest news, sports and entertainment events; here's what happened...

At the start of the year the 'Gulf War' kicked off as a result of Iraq invading Kuwait, leading to UK forces heading off to fight Saddam Hussein's army. The fighting lasted just a couple of months but is well remembered due to it being the first war that was televised on the news.

The little loved media tycoon Robert Maxwell met a mysterious end whilst holidaying on his boat off the coast of Tenerife. Struggling under financial pressure, with his corporation on the brink of collapse, he was thought to have gone overboard although no-one really knows what happened.

Another mystery to arise was an outbreak of 'crop circles'. Some 600 new ones appeared (one in the Prime Ministers garden!) in the UK throughout the summer of '91, putting Britain under the world media spotlight. Some experts pointed the finger at human hoaxers, some claimed abnormal weather conditions were the cause, whilst others were 100% sure that they were messages from aliens.

In terms of sport, England hosted the 1991 Rugby World Cup but, despite having home advantage, they were edged out in the final by the Australians. Paul Gascoigne, the new star of football, damaged his knee whilst playing for Tottenham in the FA Cup final leading to a year long spell on the sidelines.

TV saw a couple of newcomers make their mark and an old-hand return. Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer (better known as just Vic & Bob) debuted on channel 4 and their brand of bizarre humour quickly caught on, making their surreal show a 1991 hit. Back with more silly games, less than special guests and 'gunk' was Noel Edmonds on his live show (broadcast from the fictitious 'Crinkley Bottom') 'Noel's House Party'. Accompanying Edmonds, was his pink and yellow friend Mr. Blobby who surprisingly managed a number one single despite not being able to speak!

The top film of 1991 was 'Silence Of The Lambs' with leading roles from Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster. As Hannibal Lecturer (a psychotic cannibal) and Clarice Sterling (a young FBI cadet) they form a strange kind of partnership in order to hunt down an even stranger serial killer by the name of "Buffalo Bill". Also out that year was one of the few sequels to better the original; he said "I'll be back" and Arnold Schwarzenegger was in 'Terminator 2'. This time playing one of the good guys trying to protect the boy destined to save the human race.

On the UK music front in '91, the year belonged to Bryan Adams and his HUGE hit '(Everything I Do) I Do It For You'. The title track for 'Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves' topped the charts for a record 16 weeks and was in the Top 40 for a total of 6 months. As for the best selling album of 1991, that went to Simply Red and their album 'Stars'. The Christmas number one was a re-issue; Queen again releasing 'Bohemian Rhapsody' to commemorate the death of lead singer Freddie Mercury earlier in the year.

How did the persian gulf war increase the use of drugs in the 1980s?

I read somewhere that the persian gulf war increased the use of drugs in the 1980's. Why?

If by the Persian Gulf War you mean the US-led intervention after Iraq invaded Kuwait, this happened in 1990-1991, so I don't see how it could have affected drug use (or anything else) in the 1980s...

On the other hand, before that event took place, the Iran-Iraq war, which took place over most of the decade of the 1980s (1980-1988) could have had such effects, maybe by disturbing the trade and normal industry production and livelihood of many people in these two countries and forcing some of them to start growing drug-producing crops.

I don't know this for a fact, but am only speculating based on the little history of this region that I know.

Also, more generally, in the proxy wars during the Cold War the US and the USSR often turned a blind eye to the ways in which their respective local supporters ("proxies") chose to fund their military operations, so it is well known for other conflicts that drug production was a major revenue source.

South Africa is the first southern hemisphere country to host the tournament since Argentina in 1978. The draw certainly threw up some wonderful pairings, as we shall see now! 2 teams qualify from each group to reach the last 16 of eight knock out pairings.
