Screen Printing Vs Logo Embroidery

There are several methods of customizing your shirts including silk screen printing, hand painting, tie and dye, stenciling and reverse stenciling, heat transfers, airbrush and stamping, appliqués and patches and many more. Embroidery and screen printing are the two most popular methods of customizing your apparel, corporate uniforms and promotional materials. One may wonder what the difference is between the two in the manner, process and budget or which one of is better.

Embroidery

Embroidery is the process of decorating a fabric with designs that are hand or machine stitched with thread. With technology, the old handicraft of hand embroidery has been transposed with machine embroidery which is heavily used for product branding, uniform beautification, and even corporate advertising. Small entrepreneurs have emerged with their customization, logo embroidery that started out with the simple hobby of personal sewing and embroidery turned small business. With machine embroidery, the design is uploaded and digitized. This is the process that converts the artwork into stitches then saved in a file that can be read by the embroidery machine and sewn in the material chosen. There are files that are programmed already but if you have your own design then it has to be digitized first. It is very important that digitizing is done by experts to ensure that you get the exact design you envision. A wrong shade of the thread to be used would make a huge difference in how it will look. Take for example a company logo which has several colors. If not digitized accurately may produce a logo that is one shade lighter than your company logo and if it is going to be embroidered on your company uniform could create a huge discrepancy.

Embroidery is often used for company logos or designs for work corporate uniforms, business shirts, corporate polo shirts, golf shirts, lab coats, medical uniforms, jackets, promotional materials such as caps, towels, bags and much, much more.

Different companies have different pricing options. Pricing for the embroidery is usually based on the stitch count. Pricing based on stitch count is usually broken down into per thousand stitches and priced accordingly. The first step would be to upload your design or logo so that a quote will be given to you. Usually you have to pay for the logo set up fee which is better known as the logo digitizing. There are companies though that does not have a logo set-up fee and embroidery pricing would depend on the intricacy of designs and colors to be used on the logo. They also have expert digitizers who will make sure that the exact image you envision will be 100% transferred to your corporate uniforms or apparel.

Advantages of Embroidery:

  • Embroidery of company logo on corporate polo and business shirts makes it more professional, classic and formal rather than screen printing.
  • Even casual apparel that's custom-embroidered with your logo builds identity and becomes more professional looking.
  • Embroidery would greatly set you apart from competitors as it gets your business noticed and establishes your corporate image.
  • Even with repeated washing, embroidery lasts longer on clothing as it does not crack or peel off.

Disadvantages of Embroidery:

  • One common problem encountered is matching exactly the color of the logo design with the thread because the shade might not be available.
  • Small intricate details and texts are difficult to read and embroider.
  • More expensive than screen printing but can be remedied by simplifying your logo.

Screen Printing

Screen printing is the process of transferring a design to a material with the use of a woven mesh and stencil and by forcing the ink thru the mesh onto the printing surface. This is more versatile than traditional printing methods which sometimes need pressure or only works for even or smooth materials.

Screen printing can be used in a wide range of materials such as textiles, ceramics, wood, and paper, glass, plastic and even metal. Thus, one would see screen printing being used on balloons, signage and displays but more commonly used on imprintable t-shirts, promotional items such as mugs, bags, clocks, decals and many more.

The pricing for the screen printing is usually based on the numbers and amounts of colors used in the design. Each screen that is used will have its particular charge as well as a charge for ink per screen. Dark colored items would need a white underbase and thus would have an additional charge for that.

Advantages of Screen Printing:

  • Screen printing is less expensive than embroidery especially for wholesale and bulk orders.
  • Screen printing charge is not affected by the size of the design, just by the number of colors.
  • Screen printing can do bigger designs and is very versatile as it can be used on a variety of materials.
  • Screen printing can recreate very detailed logos and designs.
  • High end products can be created with shading and gradients.

Disadvantages of Screen Printing:

  • Does not last as long as embroidery. Screen printed logo could eventually crack or peel off, especially with repeated washing.
  • Fading may occur after repeated washings.
  • Some companies require a minimum order.

Each process has their own pros and cons, they have their own appeal, and each has their own uses. When choosing which method to use, first determine your budget and then the effect you want to get and then canvas the different companies that offer embroidery and screen printing service. Establish a good working relationship with the customer care support of the online store so making the necessary queries will be very easy and you get to enjoy the fruits of your labor the soonest no matter what customizing method you and your company used.

New changes to mortgage insurance premium fees for FHA loans make it easier for home buyers to purchase a home. The FHA is lowering its upfront insurance premium from 2.25 to 1 percent of the loan amount.

On the other hand, the FHA, which is part of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, is increasing its annual insurance premium from 0.55 percent of the loan amount to 0.9 percent. The ongoing MIP will be 0.85 percent for mortgages that are 95 percent or less than the property value.

That means home buyers will face smaller upfront costs. That's good news for cash-strapped home buyers, especially first-time home buyers. The trade off is higher long-term ongoing costs because of the higher annual MIP.

The new fees will also help current homeowners seeking an FHA mortgage refinance - at least in the short term. The new fees cover the FHA streamline mortgage, a program that waives credit and income checks for homeowners who already have an FHA home loan and who want a new mortgage refinance.

Mortgage insurance premiums for FHA loans with terms of 15 years or less remain unchanged at 0.25 percent for loans to value over 90 percent. Another piece good news for homeowners is that they should eventually rid themselves of the insurance payments after they build up equity in their homes. For instance, homeowners with terms of 15 years or less and a loan to value of 90 percent or less don't pay an annual MIP.

If you get an FHA loan, you pay the MIP monthly as part of your monthly mortgage payment.

After subprime lending disappeared when the housing price bubble burst a few years ago, FHA-insured loans became the only low down payment mortgage program around. You can buy a home with as little as 3.5 percent down with an FHA loan. Other types low down payment mortgages, also known as high loan to value mortgages, have still not returned.

As borrowers swarmed to FHA-loans, defaults on its loans jumped and many observers worried about lax underwriting and poor loan quality.

The FHA says it wants to meet the needs of the housing market while at the same time increasing its Mutual Mortgage Insurance fund without disrupting the housing market. FHA doesn't offer home mortgages itself, but insures home loans that made through private lenders it has approved.

Private mortgage insurance companies hope the increase in the FHA MIP will give them an advantage and help them regain lost market share.

Nation's First 100% Mobile Drug Testing Franchise Revolutionizes Testing In The Workplace

(Tampa, FL April 2010) Employee drug and alcohol abuse costs American businesses $81 billion each year in lost productivity.  More businesses are cracking down by issuing random drug tests so their workplaces remain drug free. Testing is one weapon in the war against workplace drugs. Still, more than 70 percent of drug abusers hold jobs - that's 9.4 million workers. One of them could be driving your children to school, flying your plane or sitting in the cubicle right next to you.  So why is the system failing? And what can be done to fix it?

One entrepreneur says he's created the solution with USA Mobile Drug Testing, the nation's first ever 100 percent mobile drug testing franchise. No more time and productivity wasted sending a wayward employee or candidate off site to a drug testing facility.  What's to stop that employee from buying one of the many products on the way designed to throw off the drug test? Not to mention, this process can take several valuable hours.

"We have raised the bar and set a whole new standard for drug testing," says Joe Strom, founder of USA Mobile Drug Testing, who got the idea for his company after relatives in law enforcement complained drug users were getting off scot free because there was no way to drug test on the spot.  "We save employers time and money and take the heat off human resources because with one phone call, we come in and handle everything. Our operators are trained to become drug free consultants in the workplace.  They train supervisors how to spot drug and alcohol signs and symptoms at work, plus they drug test with the highest level of accuracy and confidentiality.  Companies also get lower workman's comp rates for providing random, accurate drug testing."

With USA Mobile Drug Testing, a trained drug and alcohol tester comes right to the workplace. There is no brick and mortar drug testing site needed.  If a worker's urine tests positive on the spot, the sample is packaged and sent to a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) certified laboratory and results are sent to a doctor, called a Medical Review Officer (MRO). Once the doctor concludes the sample is either negative or positive due to illegal use, and after a personal phone conversation with the employee, the employer is notified.

USA Mobile Drug Testing is setting a new standard in the industry by providing the first-of-its-kind drug testing compliancetraining credentialcalled the C-USAMDT (certified USA Mobile Drug Tester). USAMDT university courses are offered on line andin St. Petersburg, Fla. Every franchisee goes through a week of training to make sure they are trained, credentialed and well-qualified to provide accurate, reliable, compliant and confidential drug testing.

The Time Has Come for Mobile Drug Testing

Why mobile? A 2007 study by the U.S. Government Accountability Office found "significant vulnerability" in the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) once highly regarded drug testing sites.  DOT tests all federal workers including bus drivers, pilots, flight attendants, railway workers, etc.  The undercover DOT investigation of its own 24 drug testing sites found:

  • A drug user could send someone to take a drug test in their place using a fake ID.
  • 22 of the 24 sites did not adequately follow protocol. 75 percent of the urine collection sites failed to restrict access to items that could be used to adulterate or dilute the specimen, meaning running water, soap or air freshener was in the bathroom during the test.
  • DOT undercover investigators used drug masking products and every one of them went undetected by the drug screening labs.  The investigation concluded that "a drug user would likely use these substances to obtain a passing result on a test."

The DOT has since made drug testing rules more stringent, but Strom says not soon enough.

"If government drug testing sites that test our school bus drivers and pilots were flawed, then the time has come for a better, more efficient way to do it," says Strom. "We will ensure through our training and ongoing internal and external audit process that C-USAMDT technicians are meeting all compliance measures and providing reliable, accurate service."

USA Mobile Drug Testing eliminates error that can happen at drug testing sites because:

  • Drug testers come right to the workplace to randomly test so employees don't know in advance that they'll be tested.
  • Testers are trained to take precautions that prevent tampering through drug masking products.
  • USA Mobile Drug Testing will conduct ongoing audits to make sure franchisees are following all rules and protocol they learned in the USA Mobile Drug Testing University courses to eliminate all procedural error.

Great Business Opportunity

USA Mobile Drug Testing founders are looking to expand the business nationwide and are seeking partners who want to own their own business.  It's a unique opportunity because owners work right out of their own homes. There is no brick and mortar facility requiring rent, and no special vehicle. Partners send all paperwork to the corporate office in Tampa that keeps all records for clients.

"This is an affordable business that is recession resistant," says Doug Schadle, the franchise developer who's selling the concept nationwide. "Plus, it's an opportunity to help your community and become a leader in the crusade against drugs."

###

USA Mobile Drug Testing is the first and only nationally branded franchise for mobile random drug testing. It was started in 2007 in Tampa, Florida by Joe Strom, a former corporate executive.  The University and compliance side of the business is overseen by Sue Clark, MBA, C-SAPA, a world renowned consultant in the drug free work place industry. Strom started the business in Tampa and plans to have franchises throughout the country.  USA Mobile Drug Testing provides drug and alcohol testing and related services for corporations (DOT and non DOT), government employers, athletes, schools, and more.  USAMDT collects a variety of specimens including hair, saliva and urine, and performs breathalyzer tests.  Some results are reported immediately, and lab results are typically available within 24 – 48 hours. All tests results are completely confidential.

FAST FACTS ABOUT DRUG USE IN THE WORKPLACE:

Workers who abuse drugs are:

  • 10 times more likely to miss work than those who are clean and sober
  • 3.6 times more likely to be involved in on-the-job accidents
  • 5 times more likely to file workman's comp claims
  • 33 percent less productive
  • 5 times more likely to cause injuries at work
  • Responsible for 40 percent of industrial fatalities

*Source: American Council on Drug Education (www.acde.org)

Sobering Statistics

  • More than 70 percent of drug abusers hold jobs (that's 9.4 million people)
  • One worker in four ages 18 to 34 has used drugs in the past year
  • One worker in three knows of drug sales in the work place

Workplace Worries

US Dept. of Health and Human Services latest National Survey on Drug Use and Health (2007):

  • An annual average of 8.2% full time workers aged 18 to 64 used illicit drugs in the past month and 8.8% used alcohol heavily in the past month. The highest rates of past month illicit drug use were found in the accommodations and food services industry (16.9%) and the construction industry (13.7%).

I'm looking for a cheap airfare to Karachi, Pakistan from United States. Can anyone recommend cheap airlines?

I'm going to fly from Salt Lake, I have looked up various packages online such as on orbitz, and they come around $1400 for roundtrip. Can I get a better deal during May to July?

I don't think you'll find anything better than that. Your best bet is to fly from SLC to the east or west coast and pick up flights on Pakistan International, Emirates, or Singapore Airlines. Only these airlines can offer you one-stop connecting flights from the US to Karachi. You'll have to change airlines entirely again (On top of flying Delta or something domestic to get to the coast) if you take any other international airline.

I did a few searches myself and found airfares just a bit above $1400 flying Emirates via JFK and Dubai. Hope this helps.

Agaricus Subrufescens

Taxonomy

Agaricus subrufescens was first described by the American botanist Charles Horton Peck in 1893. During the late 19th and early 20th century, it was cultivated for the table in the eastern United States. It was discovered again in Brazil during the 1970s, and misidentified as Agaricus blazei Murrill, a species originally described from Florida. It was soon marketed for its purported medicinal properties under various names, including ABM (for Agaricus blazei Murill), Cogumelo do Sol (mushroom of the sun), Cogumelo de Deus (mushroom of God), Cogumelo de Vida (mushroom of life), Himematsutake, Royal Sun Agaricus, Mandelpilz, and Almond Mushroom.

In 2002, Didukh and Wasser correctly rejected the name A. blazei for this species, but unfortunately called the Brazilian fungus A. brasiliensis, a name that had already been used for a different species, Agaricus brasiliensis Fr. (1830). Richard Kerrigan undertook genetic and interfertility testing on several fungal strains and showed that samples of the Brazilian strains called A. blazei and A. brasiliensis were genetically similar to, and interfertile with, North American populations of Agaricus subrufescens. These tests also found European samples called A. rufotegulis to be of the same species. Because A. subrufescens is the oldest name, it has taxonomical priority.

Note that Agaricus blazei Murrill is a perfectly valid name, but for a completely different mushroom. Agaricus silvaticus Schaeff. is also a perfectly valid name for a common, north temperate, woodland mushroom. Neither is a synonym of Agaricus subrufescens.

Description

The floccose stipe and annulus of A. subrufescens

The cap is initially hemispherical, later becoming convex, with a diameter of 5 to 18 centimetres (2.0 to 7.1 in). The cap surface is covered with silk-like fibers, although in maturity it develops small scales (squamulose). The color of the cap may range from white to grayish or dull reddish-brown; the cap margin typically splits with age. The flesh of A. subrufescens is white, and has the taste of "green nuts", with the odor of almonds. The gills are not attached to the stalk (free), narrow, and crowded closely together. They start out whitish in color, then later pinkish and finally black-brown as the spores mature. Spores are ellipsoid, smooth, dark-purplish brown when viewed microscopically, with dimensions of 67.5 by 45 m. The stipe is 6 to 15 centimetres (2.4 to 5.9 in) by 1 to 1.5 centimetres (0.39 to 0.59 in) thick, and bulbous at the base. Initially solid, the stipe becomes hollow with age; it is cottony (floccose) to scaly towards the base. The annulus is abundant and double-layered; it is bent downwards towards the stem, smooth and whitish on the upper side, and covered with cottony scales on the lower side.

Distribution and habitat

Agaricus subrufescens forms fruitbodies singly or in clusters in leaf litter in rich soil, often in domestic habitats. It was originally described from the northeastern United States, but has been found growing in California, Hawaii, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Israel, Taiwan, and Brazil.

Edibility

Aroma

Agaricus subrufescens is a choice edible, with a somewhat sweet taste and fragrance of almonds. The almond smell of the mushroom is mostly due to the presence of benzaldehyde, benzyl alcohol, benzonitrile, and methyl benzoate.

Commercial use

Due to the fact Agaricus subrufescens contains a high level of beta glucans, compounds known for stimulating the immune system, the fungus is used in oncological therapy in Japan and Brazil. In addition to beta-glucans, the mushroom's effect on the immune system is believed to be due to other polysaccharides such as alpha-glucans. In Japan, Agaricus subrufescens is sold under the brand names Sen-Sei-Ro Gold, and ABMK, and is used by an estimated 500,000 people In Japan, Agaricus subrufescens is also the most popular complementary and alternative medicine used by cancer patients. Although Agaricus subrufescens is cultivated in the United States, the largest exporters are China and Brazil. It has been noted in a scientific review of A. subrufescens research, that the range of quality in A. subrufescens cultivation can affect the mushroom's ability to impact cells of the immune system.

Recently, Watanabe et al. published a report in the Biological & Pharmaceutical Bulletin on a novel hybrid of A. subrufescens called Basidiomycetes-X (BDM-X) and a US patent was issued on a novel hybrid of the A. subrufescens edible mushroom which was cross-bred (hybridized) with another medicinal mushroom resulting in a new hybrid claimed to possess 10 to 3000 times the potency of similar but unpatented mushrooms.

Research

The neutrality of this article is disputed. Please see the discussion on the talk page. Please do not remove this message until the dispute is resolved. (March 2009)

Many researchers have studied Agaricus subrufescens, as well as other medicinal mushrooms for close to 50 years, due to laboratory tests which show they may stimulate immune system cells and the production of immune system cytokines. Below is a summary of this research, which is often based on animal or cellular models. Research conducted on the mushroom's ability to impact the human immune system or human diseases is limited.

Cancer research

Animal and cellular research has shown that Agaricus subrufesscens application or consumption appears to offer anti-cancer properties.

Immune system

Cellular and animal research has shown that Agaricus subrufescens may stimulate immune system cells and the production cytokines, like interferons and interleukins (reviewed by G. Hetland).

Direct anti-viral properties

Agaricus subrufescens mushrooms are known to have anti-viral properties in cell culture. The ability of Agaricus subrufescens to inhibit viruses in the human body has not been studied. Other mushrooms are also known to have anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal activity in cell culture.

Other possible effects

Besides evidence Agaricus subrufescens may up-regulate the immune system, additional research suggests the mushroom has a beneficial effect on cholesterol, inhibiting pathogenic factors, and inhibiting angiogenesis.

Limited clinical and animal research suggests, Agaricus subrufescens consumption may lower blood glucose levels and improve insulin resistance.

income tax question?

If a person is retired ang gets a pension of around 27,000 a year and contributed himself to the pension, how mich if any is taxable, he is single with 2 deprndents under eighteen, this is the only income he has

The amount he contributed isn't taxable. The rest is taxable as ordinary income - the amount of tax depends on the taxable total and what other deductions he has if any, but his federal income tax would very possibly be zero if the dependents are his qualifying children under age 17, since the $2000 child tax credit would wipe out any tax.
