Aircraft for Sale in a Down-Turned Market
Buyers of aircraft for sale can be categorized into three groups, according to Barron Thomas, a well-known used aircraft dealer from Scottsdale, AZ. The Slightly Used group wants newer planes with glass cockpits and all the bells and whistles that they can get. These buyers have lots of money, own their own business, and usually are younger entrepreneurs. The Restart Era buyers are slightly older business owners that learned to fly non-glass planes and look for the best value in an older used airplane. Vintage/Heritage buyers are those who earn salaries or wages, are cautious spenders, and who will wait to buy until conditions are right. (For Sale, Wallace, Lane. Flying, July 2009)
In all groups, potential buyers are waiting to see how far down the market will go before they either buy their first plane, or trade up to a newer or larger model. Those who have ordered new planes are discovering that the lower prices of used planes make it worthwhile to forfeit their down payment, buy the used plane and get to use it now.
Buying aircraft for sale these days is actually a better investment than putting money into the fluctuating stock market. An airplane is a commodity that has an immediate use and fulfills a need, even if it is just the pleasure of flying. People are ready to buy a used, older aircraft at the right price, rather than take the depreciation of value of a brand new plane. Furthermore, the Stimulus Package allows buyers of used planes for business-use to depreciate quite a bit of the purchase the first year.
Single-engine piston aircraft are still the best selling and the best buy for new owners. By shopping around, including dealers online, one can find the right plane at the right price, and have it right now.

do you believe in luck ?
Ed and Ted met for the first time in twenty years.
"So, how's life been for you?" Ed asked.
"Not too good," Ted replied. "My first wife died of cancer, my second wife turned out to be a lesbian and ran off with another woman and took all our savings, my son's in prison for trying to kill me, my daughter got run over by a bus, my house was hit by a low-flying aircraft, my vintage car rolled off the dock into the sea, I had to have my dog put down recently, my doctor says that I have an incurable disease and to cap it all my business has just gone bust."
"Damn, that sounds terrible..." Ed said. "What business were you in?"
"I sell good luck charms," said Ted.
